A medieval walled village, rebuilt stone by stone
Encircled by its walls and framed by mountains, Venzone is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and a national monument. Destroyed by the 1976 earthquakes, it was rebuilt with its original stones, each one numbered and put back in place: a unique feat of restoration.
The cathedral of Sant'Andrea, consecrated in the 14th century, collapsed in 1976. Its stones were catalogued one by one and the church was raised again with the technique of anastylosis. Walking around it, you can still spot the darker original stones among the new ones.
In the round chapel of San Michele rest the famous mummies of Venzone, bodies preserved naturally over centuries thanks to a rare fungus and the dry air of the crypt. They have fascinated travellers and scientists for generations.
Inside the walls, the Gothic town hall, quiet lanes and stone houses keep an authentic atmosphere, with the mountains always in view.

Venzone loves pumpkins: in autumn they appear in soups, gnocchi and sweets. Try the local cured meats and a piece of mountain cheese too.
Tell me your dates and group size, and I'll shape the visit around you. It can also be combined with a winery or another town on the same day.
